JPX Markets to Close for 10-day Golden Week

The government of Japan has promulgated and enforced a decree that designates the day of the new Emperor's Accession to the Throne and the day of the Enthronement Ceremony as national holidays (Act No. 99 of 2018). Accordingly, the ten consecutive days from April 27, 2019 (Sat.) and May 6, 2019 (Mon.) will be non-business days for Japan Exchange Group, Inc., Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc., Osaka Exchange, Inc., Japan Securities Clearing Corporation, and Japan Exchange Regulation. As such, the TSE and OSE market will be closed throughout the 10-day period.
All market users and investors are advised to carefully follow news releases and other information regarding the 10-day period.

This will be the first time for the TSE and OSE market to experience such a prolonged stretch of non-business days. Thus, we will implement thorough surveillance in our efforts to secure market reliability.

Notice to Investors

Please note that you will not be able to trade stocks, derivatives, and other listed products during the 10-day period. The Night Session of Derivatives on April 26, 2019 (Trading day : May 7, 2019) will be held as usual, with the trading hours until 5:30 a.m. on April 27, 2019.
For standardized margin transactions, please also note the following matters.

  • Repayment dates to be brought forward
    Repayment dates falling during the 10-day period will be brought forward to April 26, 2019.(Fri.)
    *The final repayment date is normally six months from the application for a margin transaction. If such date falls between April 27, 2019 (Sat.) and May 6, 2019, (Mon.) it will be brought forward to April 26, 2019. (Fri.)
  • Possibility of very high premium charges
    The corresponding premium charge for the lending term (number of days) of 11 days will be very high.
    *For the case of an outstanding loan transaction effected on April 23, 2019 (T day), the repayment date from bidding for such transaction will be May 7, 2019. In this case, the lending term (number of days from bidding to repayment) will be 11 days, which will result in a very high corresponding premium charge.
