Feb.13: First Green Bond Posts Information on the TOKYO PRO-BOND Market's Green/Social Bonds Information Platform

A green bond from the Japan Finance Organization for Municipalities was listed on JPX's professional-oriented TOKYO PRO-BOND Market. This listing is the first green bond to have its information posted on JPX's "Green/Social Bonds Information Platform".
Funds raised through the bond will be used to finance sewerage projects run by local governments, such as preventing pollution from sewage treatment and promoting energy recovery from sludge. The bond has received an independent opinion from a third party confirming that it is aligned with the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) Green Bond Principles.
JPX will continue to provide support for issuers' environmental and social initiatives, contributing to the growth of the Green/Social bonds market.

Feb.14: Special Seminar Entitled "Thinking about Financial Literacy in the Reiwa Era"

TSE held a special seminar at TSE Hall entitled "Thinking about Financial Literacy in the Reiwa Era".
In the first session, Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Amamiya Masayoshi spoke on the theme of "Financial literacy: How to be "money intelligent" to enrich your life". In the second session, Commons Asset Management, Inc. Chair Shibusawa Ken spoke on the theme of "Shibusawa Eiichi's* Rongo and Soroban**: Crucial lessons for the age of the 100-year life".
Both speakers then discussed the current situation of financial literacy in Japan and what benefits financial education can bring to the country.
* Shibusawa Eiichi was Shibusawa Ken's great-great-grandfather.
** A Soroban is a Japanese abacus; Rongo refers to the Analects of Confucius.

Feb.21: Publication of "Planned Measures for Review of Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), etc"

TSE published "Planned Measures for Review of Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), etc.".
The planned measures are in response to the December 2019 report from the Expert Study Group on Capital Markets in Japan of the Financial System Council, and include a) revisions to TOPIX calculation rules, b) changes to the calculation method for Free-Float Weight (FFW), and c) further strengthening of index governance.
TSE will now determine and announce new rules for calculation and transition processes of all indices including TOPIX, taking into account the views of index users, and aiming for a smooth transition to the new indices.

Feb.21: Publication of "Overview of Market Structure Review and Outline of the New Market Segments"

TSE published the "Overview of Market Structure Review and Outline of the New Market Segments" regarding the Cash Equity Market Structure Review.
Since publication of the final report from the Expert Study Group on Capital Markets in Japan of the Financial System Council at the end of last year, TSE has been drafting a concrete and detailed design of the new market, which is summarized in this document.
In order to help listed companies, companies preparing for IPO, and market participants start looking into and preparing for the transition, this document explains the current plan for the new market segments, the process of transition to the new market structure, and the schedule.
