Aug. 13, 2021 JPX Proof of Concept Project to Provide a Learning Environment for Trading Utilizing IT and Data Analysis - Awards Ceremony Held for Data Analysis Competition -

 

Japan Exchange Group, Inc. (JPX) launched "J-Quants", a Proof of Concept (PoC)* Project in January 2021 to provide a learning environment for trading utilizing IT and data analysis. An awards ceremony was held online for the competitions we have held so far - the fundamentals analysis competition and the news data analysis competition (hereinafter "both competitions").

Both competitions were held for novices in data analysis for the stock market, experts in data science and natural language processing to analyze stock prices, etc. using various data such as issue information, stock prices, fundamental data, NIKKEI online edition headlines text data, and timely disclosure data.

Overviews for both competitions are as follows:

  Fundamentals Analytical Challenge News Data Analytical Challenge
Purpose To provide an opportunity for a wide range of people from novices in data analysis to those with knowledge of data science to become familiar with financial data that normally is rarely accessible whereby they become interested in investing through the utilization of data analysis Same as on the left
Data for analysis Financial statements data and stock prices data for each listed company In addition to the data shown on the left, news headlines data and disclosure materials data
Challenge Participants will use the data for analysis to estimate stock prices, highs and lows, after the announcement of financial results by listed companies to predict the future of the stock. Participants will use the data for analysis to create an equity portfolio and compete for profit for approximately one month.

In addition to the awards presentation to winners of the top prizes from the competitions, the ceremony also included explanations of their analytical methods and general comments on this competition. The awards ceremony and winners’ comments can be viewed on the official JPX YouTube Channel.
