On June 27, 2022, Japan Exchange Group (JPX) and the IFRS Foundation published two joint online seminars introducing the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), set up by IFRS in November 2021, and the two exposure drafts for sustainability disclosure requirements published by ISSB in March 2022.
In the first seminar, IFRS Foundation Trustee Kono Masamichi gave an overview of the ISSB and the exposure drafts in Japanese. In the second seminar, Katie Schmitz Eulitt, Director of Investor Relationships and Senior Market Co-leader for APAC at the Value Reporting Foundation (to be merged into IFRS in August) introduced some more detail on the topic, including the story until now, the ISSB’s approach to sustainability, the relationship with other disclosure frameworks, a detailed overview of both exposure drafts, and ISSB’s plans for the near future.
We hope that these seminars can help broaden understanding of the ISSB’s proposed standards and contribute to better sustainability disclosure among Japanese listed companies.
