Japan Exchange Group has set "Promoting Sustainability that Connects Society and Economy" as one of the priority measures in its Medium-Term Management Plan 2024, and one of its initiatives is "Contribution to the creation of a Japanese carbon credit market".
Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) has won the bidding for the "FY2021 Supplemental Carbon Neutral Top League Development Project (Technical Demonstration Project for Carbon Credit Market)" commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).TSE is scheduled to commence trial trading of carbon credits starting with J-Credits in September this year.
Considering that the Project is a unique contribution that an exchange can make to the realization of a low carbon society led by the Carbon Credit Market Development Office established in April this year, TSE will proceed with preparations while working closely with METI, furthering its "GX League Basic Concept" which includes this trial.
