Handling of Electricity Futures Settlement Prices for Jan. 2021 Contract Month

2021/01/14

Comprehensively taking into consideration recent trend of Japanese electricity spot market where large fluctuation in electricity prices has been observed, starting from January 18, 2021 (Mon.), JSCC will decide the current day's settlement prices of Jan. 2021 contract month of East Area Baseload Electricity Futures Contracts, West Area Baseload Electricity Futures Contracts, East Area Peakload Electricity Futures Contracts and West Area Peakload Electricity Futures Contracts listed on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc. within the fluctuation range of 20% from the settlement prices on the previous day.

* For other contract months, JSCC will decide the current day's settlement price within the fluctuation range of 10% from the settlement price on the previous day in the same manner as current practices.

In association with this, if the settlement price of Jan. 2021 contract month which is the nearest contract month would rise significantly, the Delivery Month charge to be calculated based on the difference of the notional amount (obtained by multiplying the settlement price by contract size) between the nearest contract month and other contract months is expected to increase. So, please pay full attention to the position management as Margin requirement may rise significantly on and after January 25, 2021 (Mon.) if you hold position in Jan. 2021 contract month.
