TOCOM has decided to proceed with the listing of LNG Futures and expansion of contract months for Electricity Futures and has sought public comments for the two changes.
In consideration of the growing need to hedge liquefied natural gas (LNG) spot prices and to fix power generation margins in line with the expected expansion of the short-term and spot LNG market, TOCOM plans to launch a yen-denominated LNG Futures contract in the first quarter of FY2022.
Also, to provide a wider range of Electricity Futures trading opportunities, TOCOM plans to partially revise their specifications from April 2022, including expanding the number of contract months from the current 15 to 24.
TOCOM will endeavor to contribute to the establishment of a "comprehensive energy market" that allows one-stop trading of electricity and fuels for power generation.
