About Nikkei 225 mini

Nikkei 225mini is a stock index futures contract on the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225), in which traders promise to buy or sell 100 times the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225) on a specific future date at a currently agreed price.

Since Nikkei 225mini can be traded by pledging collateral called margin, it is characterized by the ability to make relatively large trades with a small amount of money.
In addition, since the Nikkei 225 is the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225), which is reported in the daily news, it is easy to trade even for first-time investors.

One contract is 100 times the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225)

The minimum trading unit (1 contract) is 100 times the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225). The minimum trading unit for Nikkei 225 Futures, which has been traded on the Osaka Exchange since September 1988, is 1,000 times the Nikkei Stock Average (Nikkei 225). The minimum trading unit for the Nikkei 225 mini has been reduced to one-tenth of that amount.

Tick Size

Contract unit of Nikkei 225mini quotation is 5 yen.
Orders can be placed in 5 yen increments such as 16,255 yen.

(Note) Contract unit of Nikkei 225 Futures contract is 10 yen.
Orders can be placed in 10 yen increments such as 31,010 yen and 31,020 yen.

Margin is one-tenth

Margin set by JSCC is one-tenth the amount of Nikkei 225 futures.
Therefore, Nikkei 225 mini allows you to trade futures contracts on the Nikkei 225 with a smaller amount of funds.

In other words, in the above example, Nikkei 225mini can be traded 18 times the margin amount of 3,000,000 yen with a margin of 170,000 yen deposited with the brokerage firm.
However, this leverage effect is not only effective in terms of profits, but also in terms of losses, so depending on market fluctuations, you may need to put in additional margin in cash, or losses may exceed the amount of margin.

The margin amounts listed above are examples and the actual margin amounts are calculated by each brokerage firm and are required of customers to be at least the amount of the Price Scan Range (minimum margin amount per unit) published by JSCC.
